Our history

Sanlam General Insurance LTD was originally called Beacon Insurance, which had been in the Ghanaian market since the ’80s. After being acquired by Colina, it rebranded to Colina Insurance in 2010. In 2014, the company’s name changed to Saham Insurance when its parent company at the time rebranded to Saham Finances, which was head-quartered in Casablanca, Morocco. In 2018, Sanlam Emerging Markets (SEM), which was a minority shareholder in the Saham Finances Group, acquired 100% of Saham Finances to expand its footprints in Africa, especially Francophone Africa. The acquisition increased the Sanlam Group’s footprint to 33 countries out of the 54 countries in Africa, making it the largest pan-African financial services company.

Allianz’s operations in Ghana started in 2009 with the launch of Allianz Insurance, its non-life business. The company has been providing a wide range of products and services, including Motor, Home, Travel, Injury and Disability Insurance. Allianz Insurance has also been underwriting SME insurance, Public Liability Insurance, Asset, Construction, Transport & Cyber Crime Insurance. Its bancassurance partnerships have been including Société Generale Ghana and Ecobank Ghana.

In July 2024, Sanlam General Insurance Ghana Ltd and Allianz General Insurance Ghana LTD rebranded to Sanlam Allianz General Insurance Ghana LTD when we became part of SanlamAllianz – a joint venture between Sanlam, the largest non-banking financial services company in Africa, and Allianz, one of the world’s leading insurers and asset managers with more than a century of history in Africa.
